Doppler ultrasonography of ocular blood flow in non-glaucoma versus primary open angle glaucoma subjects at the university of Nigeria teaching hospital, Enugu

Purpose: To evaluate and compare the ocular blood flow in non-glaucoma versus primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) subjects attending ophthalmic clinic of University Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Enugu using Doppler ultrasonography. Methods: A cross-sectional comparative study was adopted. Fifty-Eight POAG 58 were recruited. Information on their socio-demographic clinical profiles obtained via an interviewer-administered questionnaire. Ocular Imaging performed all Subjects. Peak systolic volume, End diastolic mean velocity Resistive Index (RI) central retinal artery recorded. Data analysed SPSS version 21. Person correlation used to determine relationship between indices demographic variables. The level significance at p <0.05. Results: mainly males, 71(61.7%), with age range 40 79 years. Subjects lived for 5.57±4.2 years, medical treatment 52(89.7%) beta-blockers prostaglandin analogues. RI significantly higher (p=0.01) subjects. significant positive (P = 0.014) observed intraocular pressure (IOP) Conclusion: In subjects, higher; as IOP increased there increase translating a sub-optimal flow. Interventions aimed modifying would therefore be synergistic lowering measures. Additionally, assessment may offer new target case finding.
